Ya’at’eeh, my name is Mel Masquat.
I am Navajo of the Towering House clan, born for the Winnebago Bear clan. My maternal grandfathers are of the Salt Clan, and my paternal grandfathers are of the Kickapoo Bear clan.
Growing up on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico, I was immersed in the beauty of my culture and inspired by the talented sand painters that surrounded me. These early experiences with art, storytelling, and the natural world shaped my creative path and laid the foundation for my journey as a jewelry designer and artist.
Today, I draw on those roots to design pieces that honor tradition while embracing innovation. Using genuine and responsibly natural materials, I create jewelry that reflects the diverse cultures, landscapes, and colors that inspire me whether from New Mexico, domestic, or my travels abroad. My hope is that each piece becomes a cherished heirloom, passed down through generations as a symbol of beauty, connection, and legacy.
In addition to my work as a designer and artist, I’ve spent over a decade collaborating with Native American programs in Southern California, promoting healing and balance in Native American communities across the U.S. I am also honored to serve as a board member for the Gichigamiin Indigenous Nations Museum, continuing my lifelong commitment to celebrating and uplifting Native American art and culture.

My jewelry was featured at the 2024 SWAIA Fashion Show Gala in collaboration with acclaimed designer Patricia Michaels, showcasing a seamless fusion of cultural heritage and contemporary fashion.
